Since ancient times in China, there have been numerous schools of Feng Shui, which
can be classified into the following categories:
1. School of Forms (Xingshi Pai)
- Luan Tou School : Focuses on the forms of the natural environment, such as mountains and waterways, emphasizing the harmony between "dragon, cave, sand and water."
- Image School : Compare the topography with animals or objects, such as the "dragon" or the "tortoise shell", and judge the fortune based on these images.
2. Compass School (Liqi Pai)
- Ba Zhai School : Based on the Eight Trigrams, it combines a person's personal trigram with the orientation of the home to determine fortune.
- Xuan Kong School : Focuses on the relationship between time and space, using the Nine Flying Stars to calculate fortune, with emphasis on the "Three Cycles and Nine Periods."
- San He School : Based on the harmony between heaven, earth and man, it combines the dragon, cave, sand and water for Feng Shui design.
- Fei Xing School : Analyzes fortune through the changes of the Nine Flying Stars, commonly used in the design of homes and businesses.
3. Comprehensive School
- Yang Gong Feng Shui : Founded by Yang Yunsong, it combines shapes and compass, emphasizing the harmony between "dragon, cave, sand, water and direction".
- Jin Suo Yu Guan : Focuses on the harmony between the directions of the Bagua and the environment, emphasizing the fortune of the "Twenty-Four Mountains".
4. Other Schools
- Qi Men School : Combines the Qi Men Dun Jia, used for Feng Shui design and date selection.
- Astrology School : Combines Feng Shui with personal astrology, adjusting the Feng Shui design according to the Ba Zi.
5. Regional Schools
- Gannan School : Centered in southern Jiangxi, it focuses on the shapes of mountains and waters.
- Minnan School : Popular in Fujian, it combines geography and local culture, forming a unique style.
Conclusion
- Although there are many schools of Feng Shui, the main goal is to improve fortune through the design of the environment. Despite the differences in methods, they all share the same purpose.
